We are ready to get started! So far we know that they live in Canada but we don't know yet where exactly they live.
The other class already knows that we live near Wisconsin. And now they know that we live in Wisconsin!!! But the class doesn't have maps that tell them the towns and cities of Wisconsin. So we just went ahead and told them where we lived and now we are still trying to guess where exactly they live. But what we do know, is that, they live near northern Manitoba.
And now we just found out that they live in Deer Wolf School in a town called Thompson In Canada!!!!!
It was interesting to know that they were a grade below us. Because It looked like they had actual lockers in there class room.
Overall this experience was great.

Now we have gotten the video through, and we are having fun. We have narrowed it down to Canada.
Now we have guessed Ontario correctly, and are continuing to narrow it down.
York region was also correct, and we guessed Georgina to be the right answer.
Finally!!! We know they live in Keswick Public School!!!!!!!!!

Our First Mystery Skype is Tomorrow!
Our first Mystery Skype is tomorrow, and the students are so excited! Today and tomorrow, we will be spending time preparing for the call. We will brainstorm questions to ask, assign roles, and get familiar with the resources we have in our room to help us.
Each class will be participating in a Mystery Skype, so overall, we will be connecting with two different classes tomorrow. I've told the students that the classes we connect with could be from anywhere in the world. Now, it's our job to figure it out!
Students will be live-blogging and live-tweeting from our classroom accounts during the call. Watch for those posts! I cannot wait to see what we will learn.
This will be our first connection with the classes we will work with for Global Read aloud. After students learn where the other class is located, we will continue to connect with students from these classes via KidBlog and our classroom twitter account.

Online Scholastic Book Orders
This week, I submitted our very first book orders! After submitting our book orders, I got our classroom account all set up. Now, you have the opportunity to order books from Scholastic online! While I will continue to send home paper book orders as well, if you would like to order on line, you may do so by visiting scholastic.com/readingclub and entering our classroom code, which I've included below:

Donors Choose Materials Arrive!!
On Tuesday afternoon, our Donor's Choose Materials arrived. Seven boxes of brand new books were delivered to our classroom, and I couldn't wait to show the students! We needed to sort all of our new books into our classroom library, which was the perfect opportunity to study genres!
Yesterday, each table group got a box of books, and it was their job to look through the books and classify them by genre. We spent some time at the beginning of class learning about genres and different types of genres. Then, using sticky notes, students applied their knowledge to all our new books!
After we sorted through the books, student choose a book that looked really good to preview to the class. So many students faces lit up when they found certain books. It was amazing to see. Some of my favorite phrases that I overheard from students yesterday were:
"I can't wait to check this out!"
"My friend read this and she said it was amazing!"
"Oh my gosh, I've been wanting to read this for forever!"
"I want first dibs on this one!"
"This book is awesome!"
"Can I take this right now?"
Today is the first day students can check out the new books. I'm so excited to get the students reading all the new books!
Thank you again to everyone who helped this project become possible. We are so grateful for all the energy you've added to our classroom!
